My Six Year Anniversary Working as a Photo Restoration & Retouching Artist

Six years ago this week was the anniversary of my first official day working as a Photo Restoration Artist at the photo shop. When I think back to all the projects I have worked on, it amazes me how much I have learned the past six years about the entire photographic process!!

Of course, my Photoshop Art skills -- making restored photos look realistic -- continue to excel each year with the customer orders we do. But, I now know Photo Lab processing, digital imaging of film, RA-4 printing, and even a few darkroom tasks. And, of course, cutting a custom mat for the final product! 

Through handling them, I have learned so much about vintage film mediums, old negative & slide types, Daguerreotypes, movie & audio reels, cameras old and new, etc, etc. I enjoy converting all the "antiques" to digital. However, just when you think you've seen it all, there is always something new someone comes in with -- and I love that surprise!

And my anniversary date was no exception to the variety that is my job. I scanned and edited pictures on the computer, scanned and printed from 35mm film in the photo lab, priced and called orders, helped customers, imaged 126mm and 35mm slides, etc. Also, true to form, I did a new task I never had before: I viewed the slides on a slide viewer to compare the sharpness of the captured image. The only main duty I didn't specifically do on my 6-year anniversary was what I was hired for -- photo restorations! ;-)  I did, however, finish the last restoration in an order with five separate photographs the day before, which I packaged.

 As much as I have learned from my boss already and through my own discovery, I am sure I will easily obtain an equal amount of new knowledge over the next six years! ;-D

Whoever is trying to bring you down is below you; you are above whomever is trying to bring you down

Not sure which version of this quote I like better, but I do believe it's a valid statement.  If someone is trying to bring you down; whether it's by spreading false rumors about you behind your back, publicly attacking something of yours, or even just giving you constant criticism to your face; I think most people would agree then they are clearly below you in their moral standards and personal ethics, not to mention their levels of integrity and kindness! And, if someone is more focused on bringing you down instead of on their own work or personal goals, it probably does indicate you are above them — or at least, that they believe you are somehow ahead of them and thus, view you as competition to eliminate.  Whichever way you look at it, it's unfortunate there are people like that. Too many people turn things that shouldn't be into a competition when it would serve us all better to help and support one another instead — or at least to just conc...

"It's Good to Know Who Hates You, and It's Good to be Hated by the Right people"

  I had to think about the second part of this one a bit, but I do concur. \   Haters tend to hate people they feel intimated or threatened by, in competition with, or envious of. Usually, there is no real reason for their hatred, other than those people are different than them; whether in looks, personality, interests, or any other qualities. In acknowledging that, if people are hating on someone who tries to be kind and respectful to all, somebody truly altruistic in their helping of others, it is fairly safe to conclude the haters lack some — or all — of those genuine qualities in themselves. Therefore, the good person is being hated by the "right" people in that they are hated simply because they are not hateful like the haters, nor would they ever want to be filled with hatred like them in exchange for their not being hated!
