Why Celebrate Photography? World Photo Day captures a great reason on their site:
"Photography surrounds us in every moment and yet, we often don't realize how powerful the images we capture every day can be.
"Today, we can share memories across the globe in seconds. Photography is an invention that has revolutionized the way we see the world. We can visit places without leaving our home. We can share adventures with friends in another city and we can watch grandchildren grow up thousands of kilometers away.
"There was a time when photography didn't exist."
World Photo Day is certainly a great day for me to celebrate. Photography IS my "purpose, passion, & perspective." It has been a part of more than two thirds of my life. Even at times over the years when I was focusing more on video, Website coding, or design, I still enjoyed taking photos and working with them on the computer. My multimedia always revolved around photographs somehow -- for years, I took pictures at all friend events to produce annual photo montage videos.
Photography has also encompassed most of my professional life in one way or another. Even before I worked in digital imaging and photo restoration, I would be shooting photos to use on Websites I built or to create digital designs with. I just never realized the extent to which photography had always been a part of who I am until the last five years or so.
Photography has defined so much of my life, and so many things wouldn't have happened without my photographic interest. Now the most prevalent example is my relationship. If it wasn't for photography, I never would have known my boyfriend. This just magnifies the extent of the influence it has had over my life. My interest in photography didn't make me who I am now; I am who I am today because of my lifelong love for photography. My life did not lead me to photography; photography led me to my life. The life I was always meant to have. :-D
