After getting married, I had come up with a cute way to combine my maiden and married names for a screen name. I was asked why I did that and had to refresh my memory of the term, as well as listen to the pronunciation. So, I started informing people it is a portmanteau, like brunch or smog, because the name contains two names that are both aspects of me.
It seemed once I knew how to pronounce portmanteau, I became inspired to create and use my own. After the busy time of our wedding, I am finally starting to set up a bullet journal, deciding what sections to have. I have a section devoted to journaling and doodling. I thought there should be a word for that, so I researched it, but couldn't find one.
So, I decided I would invent a new word combining the two terms to name my bullet journal section. I first used one letter of journaling with doodle as the ending minus one letter. Good thing I researched it, as it has a slang meaning for something sort of derogatory!
I was trying to keep the portmanteau short in length, as that was the idea of inventing a word for it, yet wanted to use enough letters to have the new term understandable. I need to at least remember it! Thus, "jourdling" was born, on August 7, 2017. I did not see it in use as my definition or in any slang dictionary meaning something else.
I have other journals to write in, so I won't be writing long pages with text of my thoughts in my bullet journal, nor would I sketch time consuming drawings, since I am using a book with graph paper lined pages. Thus, the Jourdling section of my bullet journal will contain ideas or feelings expressed visually with accompanying text, such as concrete poems and sketches that contain words/numbers which have significant meaning to the overall drawing.
You might be saying that is mostly what bullet journals are. Well, in trying to divide clear cut sections for organization purposes, I have a positive thoughts to remember section and a section of static to do lists. Anything that is a positive affirmation, something inspirational to read over later and remind myself of, will go in the former section, while any page meant to remind myself to do a specific task goes in the latter. Jourdling shall contain design ideas I want to get on paper that I may want to add to later, as well as bursts of my creativity that are unrelated to anything else but need a place to be recorded. Basically, anything random that contains text and drawing that can't be categorized elsewhere in my bullet journal will be entered into this section.
Below, is my dictionary entry I created for the new word I coined. ☺
