Ironic When We Complain About America, for We Are Using Our Right to Free Speech

Every time I see a complaining post about one of the candidates, asking what's wrong with America or comparing ours to other countries, I chuckle to myself. Because HERE in America, we are ALLOWED to voice our negative political opinions, unlike in some other countries.  This post is not about who you or I are for or against. It's just a thought instead of asking what's wrong with America because Trump won, people should remember the American rights they are exercising by publicly posting the question. If you wanted Hillary to win, freely state your disgust at the election results, but in doing so, don't belittle the country that is giving you this very right to speak your mind about the new president elect.  I still believe in America!

Cubs Win World Series

"Great Scott, Marty! Biff left a rift in the space time continuum, causing major events to shift forward precisely one year and twelve days."   "Wait,  Doc, I have trouble thinking fourth dimensionally.  You're telling me this was actually the year 2016?  This is heavy." For well over ten years,  I said the Cubs would win the World Series in 2015 because Back to the Future predicted it.  One year off?  Clearly there must be an explanation!

The Planning Fallacy Cognitive Bias

Over the years, I have come to be fully aware of this and am now the opposite. I think it might irritate people sometimes that I am a realist, I know when it is sounding like too much planning in a day than I will be able to physically do, so I won't commit to it. I hate telling people I will do something when I am pretty sure it won't happen, probably because I hate when people do that to me. So, I won't commit unless I am certain the chances of breaking that commitment are very low.  You can count on my word!  :-)   And, it has little to do with not being sure if I want to do something and everything to do with knowing what I am capable of without wearing myself down.  A Day Late and a Dollar Short: The Planning Fallacy Explained http://bigthink.com/in-their-own-words/why-you-cant-plan

The Other Side of my Ampersand: The "And" Phenomenon

Before I was dating, I often noted what I termed the "And" Phenomenon. Once you become an established couple with someone, it seems you lose your recognition as an individual.   It's always, "Michael AND Jane are coming at five" or   "Louise AND Derek are bringing the salad." It reminds me of the novel "Lord of the Flies," where the twin characters' names are run together as Samneric. I also think of a grade school friend who named the kitties from a two kitten litter Pair and Dice. She had to explain to me that together, they would be "Paradise."   These conjoined nouns start to become more of a one word term than a phrase of two people's names. Everyone who knows the couple recognizes it as the being of two. Often, it's the same person's name that comes first in the compound, as though it is a learned term entering the dictionary of your life. It's always "Jack and Jill" and never "Ji

Unfaithful Healing

When people argue against modern medicine and say God will heal major diseases with prayer alone,  my thought is always God gave us the knowledge and certain people the intelligence to be doctors.  Prayer,  too, always helps - I have seen it - but you got to help yourself and use the resources we have been blessed with.   Woman who blames parents for health woes looks to shut down faith healers

Chicago's Brookfield Zoo Employee Strike

If the employees go on strike at Chicago's Brookfield Zoo...

Thank You Kind Sir, for Dashing to Open the Doors for Me Today

Coming out of a restaurant today with a carry out bag and fountain drink, I was about to do my usual push the door open with my side. A gentleman was inside the small square lobby between the two sets of doors. He was on his cell phone but made a fast dash to open the door for me as I approached.  Then he pushed open the other door leading outside.  I smiled and expressed my thanks,  very graciously because he went out of his way to open those doors for me.  So often in this world,  people are consumed with anger and road rage. We all complain and tell the story about the bad experiences we had, but how often do we talk about the nice gestures someone does for us? So often, people are self absorbed, on their  phones,  in their own world. And i don't blame them. Many people are working two jobs,  raising kids, balancing out activities.  We walk down the street or drive down the highway thinking of our to do list, the first thing we will do when we get home.  i don't believe pe

366 Day Photo Challenge to Follow

A Dawn's Eye View: 366 Days Focusing on my Cameras    This is a unique 365 day photo challenge. Each photo features one of two miniature cameras, captured living life as photographers do. The humor comes in the captions of each photo. It seems a story is unfolding, and we are waiting for answers about their relationship.   Meet Kwanon the Camera... ...and his shooting partner Vollenda. "This Photo of the Day project features two miniature cameras, named Kwanon and Vollenda. The mini duo take turns posing for my daily photograph, personifying me as if I were a camera within the view my eyes see of the world. Each image tells the story of something interesting that happened that day, highlights a new experience, or illustrates an aesthetic view that caught my eye. The Cameras are not models but photographers captured photographing by taking a step back out of the picture to see the big picture. In itself, the scene the Cameras are photographing is fully

Eating Healthy Is Colorful

Eating vegetables isn't boring but very colorful. As I prepared my veggies to chop and saw the pile stacked there,  I was prompted to take a photo of their vibrant deliciousness.   I immediately felt I needed to post it with hash tags like #eatinghealthy, #lunchprep, and #feelgood.   And I thought I should feel good and get some energy from a healthy lunch. But also some article I read once popped in my head, that I should feel good because of making a good, healthy decision. I don't know about any of that, but I do know looking at and eating the colorful veggies brightened my day.

Prevent Plagiarism Day -- And Leave the Infringment Incident Behind You

In recognition of World Book and Copyright Day, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, I wrote some thoughts I never posted , mainly due to my life taking a fast turn and becoming insanely busy . The ten months since then have truly reiterated the thoughts I expressed in honor of the day intended to promote copyrighting not just books but all art forms. I have had confirmation of my belief that I was ready to let go of infringement bothering me and truly move on, not just verbally and jokingly, but deep inside.    Today, in honor of Prevent Plagiarism Day, I have decided to post this blog. February 19th is intended to be "an annual observance that raises awareness about 'high-tech cheating,'" according to Jace Shoemaker-Galloway of The Examiner , which is the type of "cheating" I fell victim to. This is what I wrote on April 23rd, edited a few times over the year, as well as given a final edit today: As I have previously mentioned, due to certain ev

Got Doodad?

How great life would be if the "doodad" cup was widely recognized.  We all seem to have doodads, so why not title the packaging as it is?
